In many industries pricing does not exist as a standard price from a catalogue but is rather the price offered on a deal-by-deal basis, and different customers might often negotiate different deals with different requirements, services and therefore prices. Sometimes deals can be very complex and span the world with consequent issues such as lack of speed in decision-making, lack of transparency across different countries and subsidiaries or many people involved. Other times deals might be simple, local deals but many of them, and here consistency is paramount in order to not give too much away simply because there is not enough time to think about the deal’s profitability or impact on other deals.
